Deactivating or deleting your account

You can request to delete your Off the Record account at any time. Before you proceed, here are some important things to know:

  1. Open cases must be resolved first We cannot delete your account if you currently have open or active cases with a lawyer through Off The Record. Please wait until your case is closed, or work with your attorney to close your case, before submitting a deletion request.
  2. Some data must be retained by law In certain situations, we’re required to keep limited information about your past cases on file, even after your account is deleted. This is to comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  3. Account deletion is permanent Once your account is deleted, you’ll no longer have access to your past cases, messages, or ticket history. This action cannot be undone.

How to request account deletion

  1. Open the Off the Record app.
  2. Tap Settings (bottom right)
  3. Select Account.
  4. Tap the floating action (pencil) button to edit the profile,
  5. Scroll to the bottom
  6. Enter a brief explanation of why you’re deleting your account
  7. Tap Request Account Deletion to submit.
  8. Once submitted, we’ll review your request. If you don’t have open cases, your account will be permanently deleted. If you do have open cases, we’ll notify you and your account will remain active until those cases are resolved.

Common questions

  • Can I reactivate my account after deletion? No. Deletion is permanent. If you’d like to use Off The Record again in the future, you’ll need to create a new account.
  • What happens to my case history? You’ll lose access to all past case details, lawyer communications, and documents in the app. Certain minimal records may be retained as required by law.
