When you go through our booking wizard, we ask for a photo of your ticket, citation, court docket, or reminder notice from the court. This helps your attorney verify the charge and prepare your case faster.
If you don't have any of these documents, you can skip the upload step and continue booking with whatever information you have. The more accurate the details you provide — the type of charge, the court, and the date of the incident — the easier it will be for your attorney to locate your case afterward. If you are not sure about a specific detail, your best guess is fine.

Most US states have a court records website where you can search for cases tied to your name — searching for "[your city] traffic ticket lookup" will usually surface it. You will usually need your full name, date of birth, and sometimes your driver's license number. If you find your case, take a screenshot of the court docket and upload it during booking — it gives your attorney everything they need.
Other ways to track down your ticket details
Watch your mail. Courts typically send a courtesy notice to the address on file with the DMV — the address on your driver's license — within a couple of weeks of the ticket. Every piece of mail the court sends about your case includes your citation number, and a photo of a courtesy notice works just as well as a photo of the ticket when booking. Make sure the address on your license is current — and do not wait for the notice to book.
Call the court. If you know which court your ticket is assigned to, the court clerk can look up your citation and send you a copy. Ask them to email it rather than mail it — it is much faster.
Either way, remember that booking first is usually the fastest path: your attorney does this legwork for you, and if the case truly cannot be found, you get a full refund.
What to send your attorney after booking
Once you book, your attorney can usually locate your charge — even if you didn't upload a single document. To help them, send the following in your case chat as soon as possible after booking:
- A message letting them know you don't have the original paperwork.
- Your full name and date of birth.
- A photo of your driver's license.
In some cases, your attorney may ask for additional information — such as your social security number — to search court systems that require it for identity verification. Only share this if your attorney specifically requests it.
With this information, our partner attorneys can search local court databases and usually track down the case within a few days.
What if your charge isn't in the court system yet?
It is common for tickets and charges to take several weeks to appear in court databases, especially if you were recently cited or charged. If your attorney searches and doesn't find anything right away, it may simply mean the court has not entered it into their system yet.
In these situations, your attorney will typically wait and check back. This is normal and does not mean anything is wrong with your case.
What happens if your case can't be found
If your attorney searches thoroughly and still cannot locate the charge — for example, because the court never entered it into the system, or because the information does not match — they will decline the case. When that happens, we cancel the case automatically and issue a full refund of every fee you paid.
