I feel taken advantage of. I received a ticket for operating my cell phone while at a stop light. I put my phone down when I started moving again. The original fine, if I would have just pled guilty and paid it was $120. Based on what the cop told me, this is not considered a moving violation, so I don't think it would have affected my insurance premiums; but I didn't want it on my record. My lawyer contacted me, said she would handle the case told me the court date. I had to ask her what time. She asked me to be in court. The website clearly advertises that I would not have to appear in court. I mentioned this. She said she recommends it. So I spent 3 hours to drive to, appear, and drive home from court. When I showed up she pulled me aside, said she had talked with the state, and negotiated a plea bargain.
